Webb6 okt. 2014 · The theory of the performative utterance, and the performative act is attributed to the philosopher J. L. Austin and his work How to do things with words (1962). The book grew out of a series of lectures, given at Oxford, in each of the years 1952, 53 and 54. The whole was then revised for Harvard University in 1955. Webbfied theories as these suited him (from game theory to dramaturgical metaphors to ecology) in order to organize his observations and then abandoned the theories as he saw fit. His conceptualizations were always based on empirical exemplars, gathered from Lord knows what sources, here, there, and everywhere. But they were not
